Top 10 health and fitness Amazon Alexa skills (September 2019)

Amazon Alexa market health and fitness Top skills

Another category dominate by sound skills! This time, the skills are developed by Voice Games, Healing.fm, Sonnar Interactive LTD. The two exercise skills are particularly interesting because they are unique to this category. There is a huge potential for these types of workout skills. A skill would also be a great complement for a video exercise program for once the viewer has memorized the moves, doesn’t want to turn on a video, but is looking for cues to remember what to do. I could also see a physiotherapy clinic provide their exercises programs through Alexa. Tons of potential here!

Relaxing Sounds: Spa Music by Voice Games – 4.9 out of 5, 7631 ratings, 7629 reviews

Spa Music will put you at peace. It will help you create your own spa experience and rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit. Perfect musical accompaniment for meditation, yoga, healing and complete relaxation.
Random review: I am simply in love with this skill it plays the perfect tempo and perfect balance and I am just so happy that I literally stumbled upon it when I ask Alexa to play spa music.
I LOVE IT IS ON A LOOP!!
I am going through cancer treatments so in the morning I put it on and just relax while I get ready (while I’m gone the dogs listen to it!) and when I come back it’s playing welcoming me back.
It is simply the best thing I found -for me- for the Alexa so far (5 out of 5)

Poop Detective by Empathy Engine – 4.2 out of 5, 4744 ratings, 8 reviews

You can describe your poop’s colour and texture, and Alexa will tell you a bit about your poop!
Random review: I laughed so hard I could hardly answer questions. (5 out of 5)

Fitbit by Fitbit, Inc. – 4.2 out of 5, 2091 ratings, 335 reviews

Keep up with your fitness goals by checking Fitbit with Alexa. Stay in touch with your progress and get motivated as you go about your day.
Random review: The interaction is only one way. Alexa can only read you your statistics. You cannot do things like tell Fitbit you are going to bed or tell Fitbit you just drank 8 oz of water. This would make the skill far more useful. (3 out of 5)

7-Minute Workout by Pargee – 4.3 out of 5, 1774 ratings, 382 reviews

Say ‘Start 7-Minute Workout,’ and you will be guided through a full body workout routine suited to your goals.
Random review: Great app, that allows me to conveniently complete the 7 minute workout. After reading some other reviews, there are some workarounds to the issues. If you don’t want to hear the intro you can immediately say immediately say “Alexa Ready”.This works for all stages of the workout.I get tired of hearing the introductions so I just say Alexa Ready to begin. Also,l if you never respond when she asks you if you’re ready, that is the equivalent to pausing. It will exit the app, but you can just tell her to begin workout and it will take you where you left off. There are some quirks, but its a great App that I’ve been using since January and it is incredibly easy to have Alexa guide me through it. Ask My Buddy by Beach.Dev – 4.6 out of 5, 641 ratings, 630 reviews

Ask My Buddy helps you ask for assistance using only your voice – and – makes it easy to let your contacts know you are doing ok.
Random review: I have mine set up for my mom who lives w me, so when I’m away from home she can activate if necessary. Last night, was being demonstrated on tv and highlighting the “ask my buddy” app.Well my Alexa heard the command and the next thing I know my cell phone rings and text message is sent telling me to check on my mom! Of course I knew she was fine sitting across the room from me. The kicker was that my husband out of town also called in not knowing it was a “test/mistake” and wanted to make sure everything was ok. Brilliant!! (5 out of 5)

Relaxing Sounds: Spanish Guitar by Voice Games – 4.9 out of 5, 716 reviews

This Spanish Guitar music will put you at peace. It relaxes your body and mind to reduce stress and make you feel better! Perfect musical accompaniment for meditation, yoga, healing and complete relaxation.
Random review: Music is romantic and soothing. Play to read your favorite book, cook, or while driving to avoid road rage. This music has brought my blood pressure down significantly. (5 out of 5)

Zen Sounds: Japanese Garden Sounds by Healing.fm – 4.9 out of 5, 563 reviews

Experience a peaceful Japanese garden with a running stream and authentic Japanese instruments. Perfect for relaxing, studying, meditating or sleeping.
Random review: Himalaya… Cosmic… Japanese Garden… etc. ALL of the sounds by ZenMood are spectacular!
Soothing, relaxing, comforting, calming, and not boring, annoying, tiresome, or overly redundant like SOo many I’ve listened to.
At least one of our Echos has one or another of the ambient background sounds playing at virtually all times – 24/7. Even our four-legged furbabies chill out to them! It’s almost like we’ve struck up permanent residence in a New Age shoppe. *smiles*
Thank you, ZenMood; you’re absolutely perfect! (5 out of 5)

The Best Thunderstorm Sounds by Sonnar Interactive LTD – 4.9 out of 5, ratings, 405 reviews

In one skill, you can listen to multiple types of thunderstorm sounds (currently 6).
Random review: This is my absolute favorite sounds for sleeping.I always choose Heavy Rain because it’s so relaxing for me.Only one issue…I’m not sure if there was a poor update, but when the sleep timer is set, it doesn’t play until the time requested. For instance, if I set it for 4 hrs, it’ll only play for an hour and stop. That’s the only annoying thing. 5-Minute Plank Workout by cubic.ai – 4.4 out of 5, 361 ratings, 261 reviews

5-minute plank workout. 6 sets with short rests between them.
Random review: Awesome skill.Don’t use it enough.I wish there was a little more variety in there though…. Maybe a different order of exercises.Or some pep talk (“15 seconds left – you got this!”), an Alexa joke thrown in to pass the time, a story, something else.Even music. This skill is great, but it’s not as great as it could be yet. (3 out of 5)

The Best Rain Sounds by Sonnar Interactive LTD – 4.8 out of 5, ratings, 253 reviews

In one skill, you can listen to multiple types of rain sounds (currently 9).
Random review: This is a great app with much promise.
A couple of things hold it back, though.
– A long and tedious start up process that I can’t find a way to skip.
– No apparent way of making the sounds last more than an hour.
As for the sounds themselves, they are good quality and varied. I love going to sleep with them.
Yes, could use a little improvement, but it’s free. (Would happily pay for a more feature packed version of it.) (4 out of 5)
